Before you begin searching for a home, it's always helpful to think about your needs both now and in the future.
Your real estate professional is an expert at walking you through the ins-and-outs of the purchase process, and will have plenty of tips suited for your personal situation.
Three items to keep in mind are:
1. New or Resale? Once you've decided on the home's location as well as what features must be included, it's time to consider whether you want a previously owned home (often called a resale) or a new home.
2. Home Type. There are many types of homes available today and each type has its advantages. Think about your needs before making a decision, and don't forget to look beyond the interior walls. The environment surrounding your home can be as important as the environment within. Different types of homes will vary in size and price range, so this is another important decision to make before you set out to find your ideal home.
3. Additional Preliminary Considerations. Some of the many considerations you'll have to ponder before you start shopping for a home include: location - city, suburb, country; size requirements - number of bedrooms, bathrooms and living space; special features - do you want a swimming pool, air conditioning, two-car garage, fireplace, etc?
